Andrew Birden has been a cook in many different settings that include restaurants, a
hospital cafeteria, a variety of pizza joints, the life of a stay-at-home father, and countless
camping trips with the Boy Scouts, friends, and family. As an award-winning journalist for
a newspaper in Northern Maine, he has written articles about the men and women who
participate in some of the most testosterone-rich activities in the world such as dogsled
racing, bear hunting, logging, the rifle and cross-country skiing sport of the World Cup
Biathlon competition, and snowmobile sports. His work has been translated into both
French and English. Andrew was a secondary school teacher for several years, and
taught education courses at the local university. He lives with his wife and two sons in
Fort Kent, Maine, along with two cats, two dogs, and one annoying moose.
