Andrew Birden is a photojournalist for the St. John Valley Times. He took this picture of U.S.
Senator Susan Collins practicing her aim at the world famous 10th Mountain Ski Lodge in Fort
Kent, Maine on February 25, 2007. Before the target practice, the senator jokingly asked that
Andrew not to publish her score. However, after a quick lesson from biathlete Grace Boutot,
Senator Collins struck a hit, on a 5-inch target over 164 feet away, on her first shot. She said it
would be okay to publish that result. This photo is the property of the St. John Valley Times and
